// My Happy Place //
March 11, 2005Abundant sunshine. Warm. High 76F.
There is just something about a sunny breezy day that lifts my spirits no matter what else is going on.
I was late to work today because I just couldn't drag myself away from reading my People magazine, over cereal and tea, on the balcony of our little tree house apartment. I'm wearing capri pants with slidy-ony shoes [that's a technical shoe term in case you aren't familiar :)], and I'm sippin' on a big fat iced latte.
Magazines, capri pants, iced coffee, abundant sunshine. Today, life is good.
P.S. Deepest apologies to those of you living on the east coast for this indulgence in California Love.

January 26, 2005I *heart* my iPod Shuffle
You know what I don't *heart* though? How delivery people always come in exactly the middle of the day, then leave a note telling you they need a signature, so you leave a signature, then they tell you that you need to be there in person (in the middle of the day) and by then they have come three times so they take it back to the warehouse and you have to call them, like, 4 times before you can figure out that now what you have to do is drive all the way to the middle of warehouse land, near the airport, through rush hour traffic, in the dark, to some sketchy office where they give you a package, which you start to rip open with glee because it's your birthday present, and you love birthday presents, but then it turns out to be the WRONG package, so you have to go back into the sketchy office and wait another 10 minutes for them to find the right package. I don't *heart* that at all.
But then, of course, the package you have finally and triumphantly wrestled from the hands of FedEX, really is your iPod Shuffle, which your amazing girl was smart enough to order on the very first day so you could have it right away, and all of that crazy frustration with phone calling, and package tracking and endless driving sweeps away as clouds of happiness swirl around you while you look at your pretty pretty toy.

January 06, 2005JetBlue Rocks!
Miss B and I got both got this email today:
Dear Laura,
Thank you for flying with JetBlue Airways on flight #477 from Boston to Oakland on January 4, 2005. We regret that we were not able to operate your flight as scheduled because of the fuel stop in Salt Lake City.
Due to the full flight and unusually strong headwinds, the aircraft was burning fuel at a higher rate than normal. Given the maximum number of customers onboard, and that we did not want to leave baggage behind (the Holiday Season typically means an increase in baggage), it was necessary for us to make the stop in order to obtain more fuel. We sincerely apologize for your late arrival and the inconvenience this situation caused you. As always, our foremost consideration in these cases is for the safety of all our customers.
As a gesture of goodwill and apology, we have issued each customer on your flight a $25 JetBlue electronic voucher. This voucher is for you; it is good for one year from your original date of travel, and may be redeemed by calling 1-800-JETBLUE with your confirmation number for this flight.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to a future opportunity to welcome you aboard JetBlue Airways.
How awesome is that?

December 11, 2004Starry Starry Night
The night sky is so filled with stars that you couldn't even begin to pick out constellations (well, maybe if you were someone who didn't get a C in Astronomy in college because you were passing notes with your freshman roommate you could, but that's totally beside the point!). I could spend hours out on the deck, looking at the sky thick with sparkly lights, listening to the distant roar of the ocean and the wind in the trees...
Its one of the most amazing things about this place. I love it so much that when my dad designed the house, he called the built in window benches "Laura's observatory" knowing that I would always choose to sleep there.
Because when all the lights are off in the house...its just like being outside (without the raccoons!)

November 28, 2004Stuffed with stuffing, Part II
Since we didn't get to bring home any leftovers from Turkey Day - yeah, I'm still not sure how that happened - we decided to have our own little thanksgiving for sunday dinner. I made a roasted chicken, stuffing and mashed potatoes and Miss B made her famous apple pie.
So...from a food induced stupor, some highlights of our long weekend.
Friday: lounged around and then went to see The Incredibles (which is amazing - go see it right now) and Ray (also amazing...in a totally different way).
Saturday: watched Battle Royale (must have the requisite freaky Japanese movie), went to Berkeley to help my brother move, and ended up on 4th street - a super cozy and festive little shopping area - where we splurged on books at Cody's and bath salts at Hydra (thanks Miss B!!).
Today: surprised ourselves by getting xmas shopping done for my whole family (we bow down to the Target gods) and topped that off by driving back from Daly City via the Great Highway...ocean ocean ocean. Yummy.
Must. Eat. Pie

November 13, 2004I could get used to this!
The drive up on windy windy (as in winding not full of wind) road in the pitch dark was totally worth it to wake up here.
So far this morning we have been to the local bakery for a sticky bun, seen two hummingbirds and a gaggle of quails and watched the second half of "Angels in America" (amazing!!). That's what happens when you wake up with the sun.
Now its off to my favorite grocery store, the Surf Super, in Gualala (the nearest town) and then a picnic on the beach.
Wanna meet us there???

November 09, 2004How much do I love my new boss?
THIS MUCH:
She came into my office a little before 11 this morning and said "lets go....". We drove to a little Taqueria and had nachos as an early lunch. Mmmmmmm
The only downside to this?
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ (cheesy beany goodness makes loody very sleepy)

November 07, 2004It's Pho Sure......
We have found the best yummiest bowls of steaming noodly goodness.
Not to mention sushi, and tacos, and peruvian food, and gooey cheezy thin crust pizza.
Oh and blueberry scones.
You should all move here...and that's all I have to say about that.
