StupidExplosion

I don't know what possessed me to sign up, but I did it. I had to see what all the fuss was about.

Maybe I just needed something to click obsessively on while I'm home on vacation.

I expected lots of different blogs about lots of different things, but really, all people talk about (or at least those signed up on BlogExplosion) is:

  • Taking their kids to soccer practice in their minivan.
  • How much they love being a stay at home mom.
  • Wanting to have babies.
  • Having babies.
  • Not having babies.
  • Their boyfriends (or ex-boyfriends).
  • How great it is to be a right wing republican.
  • How much democrats suck, and/or how much democrats don't make any sense, and/or how they can prove that all democrats are wrong.
  • Their love of Jesus.
  • How much they want to be like Dooce (well, they don't actually talk about it, but you know it's there).
  • Being an aspiring writer.
  • Blogging.

Ahhhh, the Internet.
And yet, I still keep reading.

Must.... click... must... read.... more.... ramblings....

Comments

I'd write a longer comment but I have to go (with my boyfriend!) to pick up the kids at their soccer tournament at Reagan memorial park.

read about it later on my blog!

Or...people signed up on Blog Explosion tend to also write long posts complaining about what other BE people post about.

Hmm, sound familiar?

Posted by: Shelley at December 3, 2004 02:35 PM

*Gasps*

They've found me out.

Posted by: miss fitsandstarts at December 3, 2004 02:38 PM

I agree.

The same formula is spewed out on every single blog that I've seen today ; this happened in the news and here's my opinion that conforms with the general consensus / here are the links I'm enjoying today / here's why people of the opposite political persuasion suck.

Yawn.

My blog is hardly the most fascinating one out there, but at least I don't get a bug up my arse when people have a problem with it.

Posted by: marie at December 3, 2004 02:40 PM

Addictive isn't it?

Posted by: Catt at December 3, 2004 02:45 PM

I scrolled the list, trying to find me. :p I guess I fit the very last one, blogging about blogging?? Or not.

Posted by: suki at December 3, 2004 02:49 PM

there is nothing new under the sun. : (

i read that on a jesus blog.

Posted by: shark at December 3, 2004 04:14 PM

As I write this, someone in the BE universe must be writing up about our blog.

Posted by: Rohit at December 3, 2004 04:25 PM

I don't fit into any of those. I guess you and I are the only unique bloggers on BE. :-)

Posted by: Brooks at December 3, 2004 05:03 PM

Hmmmm, trying to figure out where on that list I am :D

Came across your blog surfing BE :) I do have to admit there are times when I seem to hit only the right leaning and knitting blogs, but BE is so darned addicting (esp when they hand you a 100 credit mystery prize. I want more of those LOL)

Posted by: JeanC at December 3, 2004 05:24 PM

Why do we keep doing it? It is addictive. Somehow the right wing, Jesus sites are so much more offensive than the sex sites. And while I've been known to knit, I just don't get the knitting blogs. And why are there so many? I found a few blogs at first and then more, and I find myself checking in on these people's lives. Lurking. I tell myself to get a life, but I have one. Oh well. I'll check you out again, though. Wouldn't it be nice to be in graduate school and in my 20's again. Not that I'd trade but it would be nice...

Posted by: Kathy at December 3, 2004 06:28 PM

Oh yeah, and they also tell us how boring and uncool our blogs look. I guess I have other things to do with my day and haven't written code lately.

Posted by: Kathy at December 3, 2004 06:30 PM

Well said.

Posted by: Cletus Nelson at December 3, 2004 10:30 PM

So what? Those are all different things, just repetitions and generic, that's all. Then again, SO WHAT?!

Posted by: rapport_girl at December 4, 2004 12:08 AM

I'm not on your list ;)

Posted by: pixeltigris at December 4, 2004 02:30 AM

Damn! I thought I'd escaped your list too, but then you mentioned sniping at hideous/boring templated blog designs, which I have been known to do - in a nice way, though ;)

To be fair, I have discovered some worthwhile blogs via BE, even if they are a minority.

Posted by: NRT at December 4, 2004 02:37 AM

Or, if you're me, you write about yourself. Just yourself. All.day.long.

Posted by: Louise at December 4, 2004 06:54 AM

I expected lots of different blogs about lots of different things, but really, all people talk about (or at least those signed up on BlogExplosion) is:

Blogging.

How about trying to think about the name of the website. I may be wrong but isn't this a blog? Just a thought!

Manolo says, and then there is the Manolo!

Muchos Besos!

Posted by: Manolo at December 4, 2004 07:44 AM

I've blogmarked 17 blogs so far out of my 3 days of BE surfing, most of which I pulled out of the directory. You might want to go there and pick the category you like best and surf those. There's some good blogs in there.

I noticed after the first day of BE that I started seeing repeats, and now on the third day I'm seeing lots more repeats, so my guess -- and it's only that -- is that there is a relatively small number of active BE participants, though a larger number of people signing up and adding their sites.

Posted by: TDavid at December 4, 2004 09:44 AM

not all of us. some of us are trying to make this our living. ;)

I signed up for blog exlposion two days ago. One thing I noticed are that the blogs change based on what time of day it is. Midday there are many more soccer moms. Middle of the night the blogs tend to be political. Anyways, my blog doesn't fit into any of your categories. Feel free to check it out.

My kid doesn't play soccer
I work full-time
I'm NOT having any more babies
I'm married and (aside from my husband)don't have a boyfriend
I am NOT a right-wing republican
I do love Jesus - I just don't spend time blogging about it.
I don't even know who DOOCE is
I am not an aspiring writer
...well, maybe I write just a little about blogging ... but not much.
Seems when I surf blog explosion I get mostly political rants - I can turn on the TV and hear that!

Posted by: Nancy at December 4, 2004 12:00 PM

I guess you haven't seen the multitudes of knitting blogs.

Posted by: tiiana at December 4, 2004 12:09 PM

Woo, you've opened up a can of worms here I see. .

Well done ;]

Posted by: marie at December 4, 2004 01:17 PM

Yeah, most of the blogs on BlogExplosion suck. I've found a few good ones, though. This one and one by a liberal soldier in Iraq.

Posted by: Mike Schafer at December 4, 2004 01:26 PM

Well, I don't think my site falls into any of those categories.. but I agree that there are too many of the above in BE. It's not the subject matter that sucks so much as the lack of innovation or creativity.. like the posts that are like: 'yea so i went to skool today lol and i hate skool it sux.'

Bleh.

Posted by: Alena Davis at December 4, 2004 02:48 PM

Oh thank goodness I thought *I* was the only who had noticed that. I was just thinking to myself, you know I don't mind getting some right wing perspective but have they taken over the blog world or is it just coincidence...?

I think I'll do it by category from now on.

Posted by: Arethusa at December 4, 2004 07:43 PM

I entirely agree that most of the blogs out there are of absolutely no real interest to me, what I love about BlogExplosion is that it forces me to break out of the little "community" of blogs I always read - and then I wind up finding a few new ones among the clutter of boring crap out there. This takes the place of Blogger.com's "recently updated" and "new additions" lists that Google saw fit to get rid of - that was one of the few sure ways I had of finding new sites to read . . .

Posted by: Tom at December 4, 2004 08:12 PM

blogs about aspiring writers, you must have come to mine then, it's great read more!

Posted by: Benjamin Solah at December 5, 2004 04:45 AM

Quite true, however, I couldn't resist checking out that dooce website, and the chicks "How to Annoy Me" section is funny as hell.

Posted by: rowan at December 5, 2004 04:44 PM

I had to break up with my boyfirend. He and my husband just couldn't get along.

Posted by: Busy Mom at December 5, 2004 08:28 PM

This is hilarious...

haha

Posted by: frecklegirl at December 6, 2004 05:51 AM

Wow- seems like you've really stirred the pot. I'm going to browse through your blog and from what I've read so far, I think I'm gonna like it! :)

Posted by: RisibleGirl at December 6, 2004 09:03 PM

which is why I never sign up for any of that crap.

Posted by: ASB at December 7, 2004 04:41 AM

Truth is, most blogs are about people's day-to-day lives. However, I'm starting to see a greater diversity (and better quality) of blogs on BlogExplosion. Not sure of that's a testament to BlogExplosion or if people are just getting better at blogging.

Posted by: Brian at December 7, 2004 08:45 AM

BE would be a lot more exciting if users had the option of browsing only blogs containing profanity. Such filter would eliminate most of the nauseating knitting/babies blogs.

Posted by: Tudor at December 7, 2004 01:03 PM

Out of the 57,000 potential blogs to view I'm only getting to see like the same 100 blogs.
